INCI: Soluble Collagen
Hydrolyzed Collagen as an active component of cosmetic preparations acts as an natural skin moisturizing product simultaneously having a considerable impact on its protection against pre-mature aging. Preparations with collagen are designed mostly for the care of the following types of skin: mature, tired as well as dried, as a result of excessive effects of weather and water.
Collagen regenerates and makes the skin elastic, restoring its freshness and moistening. Owing to its property of natural moistening factor (NMF), collagen, which is a part of the epidermis and dermis, influences the maintenance of proper skin moistening level, simultaneously protecting it against the loss of transepidermal water.
Skin aging process undergoing in the connective tissue of the dermis gradually transform soluble collagen into insoluble networked collagen which lacks the ability to receive water. The skin becomes dry and non-elastic. These unbeneficial changes become accelerated in case the skin and the body are exposed to harmful effects of chemical factors or weather. (e.g. excessive sunbathing).
By supplementing a lack of collagen in the skin, we exert regenerative and smoothing effects, restoring its freshness and proper moistening. Cosmetic preparations rich in soluble collagen (up to 10%) have clearly lifting effect – it is especially recommended for rejuvenating face masques.
Owing to strong film-forming properties of soluble collagen with tri-spiral helix structure, characterized by high molecular mass, the surface of the hair/skin receives a kind of thin protective film/membrane, enhancing the ability to keep moisture and nice to touch feeling, simultaneously protecting the skin/hair against a penetration of harmful substances from the environment.
Besides the soluble collagen plays an important role in the process of granulation tissue growth and injury healing, hence, it is recommended for the production of bathing salts, burns and skin injuries ointments as well as for the production of after-sun preparations. In hair preparations, the soluble collagen additionally influences a structure of a hair by moistening and making it elastic.
The way of adding collagen into a cosmetic: in the final phase of a technological process, one should add the protein in small portions into the previously cooled production mass in the temperature of 34°C at most. The added collagen has to have the form of homogenous, loose suspension. In case it becomes gelated, it should be thermostated in the temperature of 34°C at most.
