INCI: Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Glycyrrhiza glabra (Licorice) Root Extract
Licorice root extract.
Several investigations started during the 50's have proved that licorice is very effective in gastric ulcers treatment. This effect is attributed in part to its flavonic components which together with saponins seem to increase the synthesis of glucoproteins that cover gastric mucose. Glycyrrhizic acid has an important anti-inflammatory action due to its participation in corticosteroids metabolism, inhibiting 11-B-dehydrogenasa enzyme.
Flavonoids have several actions: they are analgesic and anti-convulsive and they also have antioxydant action, working as free radicals scavengers too. Due to their melanogenesis inhibiting action they have been also used in cosmetics manufacturing as skin de-pigmentators.
Finally, licorice extracts are used as effective agents against dental plate as they have proved their inhibiting action against Streptococcus mutants, also inhibiting glucosiltransferasa enzyme action that participates in plate formation. Glycyrrhisoflavanone and glycyrrhisoflavone flavonoids have a certain astringent effect and a remarkable anti-free radicals action. It has proved that GU-7 inhibits the activity of phosphodiesterase enzyme increasing cAMP concentration.
